Daytime to sunset/nighttime effect

I found this video tutorial in the internet. It teaches how to change a daytime picture to a sunset or nighttime picture following very simple and easy steps.

I tried it myself.

Starting with this picture:

Then I added this other pic as a layer:

I played with the colors using photoshop (maybe other photo editing softwares will do too) just like what the tutorial said and here is what I ended up with:

I know that the new picture is flawed (notice the direction of the light is against the source which is the moon) but it's the thought that counts (lol!). No...what I mean is that the process is so simple even a caveman can do it.
